A good turn out of seven skippers arrived at the lake to be welcomed by good breezes from the SW varying around 10-14 kts with some passing gusts up around 16-18 kts. The regulars were bolstered by the arrival of one new skipper, Bill Fenwick, who settled into the racing with ease. Mark proved again to be consistent through the afternoon for which he was rewarded with an eventual handicap of 130 seconds. Scoring within the top three places for seven races also saw Guy push out to a 100 second handicap. Weed unfortunately made its presence during a couple of races but with good winds, the full card of eight races over the full course resulted in a good afternoon. The final podium results saw Mark in 1st place, with Guy 1 point behind in 2nd and then Ken a further 3 points away in 3rd place.

Next week will see the last day of competition for the IOMs in 2024.

A warm sunny afternoon greeted the four skippers at the lake with SW winds blowing a reasonable 10-14 kts. The full course was sailed over eight races with close racing taking place between Guy, Wayne and Ken. Despite an absence of five weeks for Guy, he was able to still achieve three 1st's. The closeness of the racing was shown when at one stage, three skippers started with a 40 second handicap. Wayne had an unfortunate mishap of snagging Zoo Buoy while in the lead during race two and ended up watching the fleet sail by. While the breeze remained fairly consistent during the afternoon there were still some holes around the course that required avoiding. At the end of the afternoon, Ken and Guy both sat on 13 points, but with the greater number of race wins, Guy took 1st place overall from Ken, followed by Wayne in 3rd.

We had a late start with Terry leaving his hatch cover home, but we got going at 1:30pm, Mike returning after doing a rebuild on the wasp was needing a bit of help, Mark as he has done before getting into mikes boat at the break, This allowed Mike to carry on but he's needing a new mask. There was some nice racing between Mark and Ken, both with 3 1st's But Mark took honers by a point. Nice to see Terry taking out the 5th race and Trevor being consistant all day

The breeze was again with us aroung 10 Knots and allowing us to sail the full course for the 8 races. It was good to see Colin sailing again winning 2nd & 4th Races, Brian was again keeping on my tail also having 2 wins. Trevor being constant with a 1st, 2nd & two 3rd placings, Terry was trying to get the feel of sailing his new boat who he brought of Geoffery Lorimer, also had to leave early. It was good sailing from all with only seconds between finishing,

We started with 5 skippers, It was good to see Mark back and at his best winning the 1st & 2nd race, Ken taking the 3rd & 4th but could not keep on top of Wayne who was sailing very well also having 2 wins for the day. Nice to see Trevor having a win in the 7th race, the breeze didn’t let us down, it was up all day allowing us to sail the full course for the 8 races, the first time for the year, I think. Mark 1st with Wayne 2nd then Ken

There were 4, but Terry unable to power up his boat decided it best not to attempt to fix it and left it up to Brian Trevor and Ken to tackel the shifting breeze. With no trouble with getting hooked up, we flew through the 8 races with Ken, Trevor then Brian finishing in that order

A good days sailing overall, although it was looking a bit doubtful for Colin who experienced a winch drum problem while setting up. Fortunately, with the hands-on assistance of Ken and verbal assistance of others, the problem was eventually fixed and racing got underway. With six boats on the water, a shortened course was used during the first four races as the breeze was quite variable between 4-8kts and patchy. After the break, the wind filled in from the SW and we saw the rest of the afternoon with 8-10kts gusting at times 12-14kts; this enabled the full course to be sailed. With the handicap system working well, everyone got at least one 1st across the line and there were a few occasions where all boats bunched up around a buoy or two. By the end of the day, Guy had made good use of the conditions and finished with three 1st's across the line despite going out to a 60 seconds handicap by race 7. The final placings were Guy 1st, Wayne 2nd and Colin 3rd.
It was good to see Wayne back out on the water after being away for a few weeks.

Some consistent wind around 8-10 kts provided the five skippers with some close sailing through the afternoon. Good sailing by Mark and Ken saw them take three and four 1st places across the line respectively with Brian giving them a good chase at times. Unfortunately Terry had to retire at the halfway mark.

A warm spring afternoon greeted five skippers with the prospect of an 8-10 kt breeze. But after the first race, it was soon found that the wind had other intentions and it quickly dropped away and faltered between nothing and about 6 kts while swinging around all points of the compass. A shorted course was used with Zoo Buoy being left out. Unfortunately, by the fourth race, Brian had experienced far too much drifting and lack of breeze and he departed the lake to leave the remaining four to tussle out the rest of the afternoon. With Guy returning to racing, a close contest ensued between he and Ken and at the end of the seven races, the net scores were tied at 9 pts each; the deadlock being decided on a count-back which saw Ken take 1st, Guy 2nd and Trevor in at 3rd. It was good to see Mike out with his Wasp and gaining experience with the IOM.

Today was a challenge with top of the A Rig breeze and Gusts well over 18 knots. 5 skippers were up to the challenge, 1st race was a learning curve for the rest of the day, Colin losing his spreaders put him out of the 2nd race. On the last race Brian going so well when the gust took him out of control and getting stuck in the reeds. With 4 of the 5 skippers taking a win and Mike Dean showing he will be sailing with the best taking a 2nd spot in the 5th race.
The podium was Ken, Colin, and Brian
Just a reminder to all skippers We will be starting the Dragonflite 95 on Tuesday 3rd/September/24 (next Tuesday)

Today we were not allowed to drive into the club area due to heavy rain in the last few days but today turned out a beautiful day with a breeze coming and going, Our 1st race was unlucky for Brian having his main sail torn in half. With a bit of tape he was back sailing with a bigger handicap. The breeze was very hard to judge in places and boats changed positions regularly. Half of the races were sailed on the shorter course leaving the zoo marker out There was very close racing between Colin, Wayne and Ken with Ken just winning by a point

Today we welcomed Mike Dean joining the IOM 1 Meter class with his Wasp, It wasn’t the best day to try his hand at sailing the bigger boat, After sinking a couple of Tyres we had 6 starters but By 1pm we had 5. In the 1st race Terry Priest having battery trouble again and was unable to keep sailing for the rest of the day. Wayne picking up weed in 3 races taking him out of 2 completely, A pity as Wayne was sailing very well. Trever sailed well, missing a win but picked up 2nd spots 3 times. The podium was Ken. A good show with seven skippers gathering at the lake with a fair steady breeze from the west at around 11 kts giving promise to a good afternoon of sailing on the full course. In quick time the first four races were undertaken and after getting back on the water after the mid racing break, the wind peaked at 13 kts but rapidly decided to die away for the rest of the afternoon, so much so, that a shortened course was used for race eight. Unfortunately Brian suffered a battery problem for race five which couldn't be resolved for the remaining races. Trevor, who picked up a 1st for race three, then had to withdraw from race six onwards due to other requirements. At the end of the day, the top three places were separated by just 1 pt respectively, and after discards, the results showed Mark, Guy and Colin on the podium. Despite the two withdrawals, the dying breeze and rain, a good day's racing was nonetheless had.

A forecast of very light breeze anywhere between 0 and 10 kts saw six adventurous skippers turn up at the lake, including the return after a long hiatus by Guy. A few remaining tyres were sunk by Colin and Ken prior to the racing and by the looks of things, the lake could be clear of them for the foreseeable future. With the water in a glassy state and just a few wind ripples here and there, a total of three races were managed to be completed over an hour and quarter, despite using a shortened course. With nothing better looking on the horizon, it was decided to call it a day and racing was abandoned for the rest of the afternoon. Well done to Guy who made the best of the conditions on his return with two 1sts and a 2nd and staring down the prospect of a 50 sec handicap had a fourth race been sailed. Hopefully next week will see some stronger breezes.

With a storm expected over the weekend, Colin, Fred and Ken arrived early before the IOM sailing and started to work on any floating tyres. A line was managed to get fed through all the visible tyres that were trapped at the north end of the lake thereby making a chain so they could not move during the storm. With rain forecasted and 12 knot breezes, there were 6 skippers for today's event. New comer Mark Easton won the first with ease while Wayne Metcalfe, back with his Panko for the first time this year, only took two races to get back into sailing by winning the third, fourth and fifth races. Ken must have missed a tyre when they were being gathered up as he ended up sitting on top of it in the third race and had to get the dingy to retrieve his boat - helped on by the cheers coming from the rest of the guys at the pavilion. With this time of the year and light breeze only 6 races were able to be raced with Wayne eventually taking top place for the day. Well done Wayne, great to see you back.
