Five skippers today for DF95 sailing in a breeze that struggled to reach 8 kts. Each race had its own challenges as the skippers tried to get the best out of the varying breeze. The full course was however able to be sailed although just seven races were held. Unfortunately Brian had to depart after six races leaving just four on the course for the last race. In addition to the unsteady breeze, weed made its appearance over the last two races causing problems to all on the water. With Ken P taking 1st place, it was very pleasing to see Trevor in 2nd place with his new sails. In 3rd place for the afternoon was David.
Looked good with five sailors starting but unfortunately after two races we were left with four. Six races were sailed in winds from the SSW at around 5-15 kph. A pleasant afternoon with the races sailed in good spirit.
The lake was clear for once... no floating tyres to dispose of before the racing started. While the breeze was there, it was somewhat fickle around the top mark and not getting into irons was the task for the day. Eight races were able to be held and all were sailed using the full course. An enjoyable afternoon out at the club by the four who raced. Well done Ken who showed some pretty clean heels; he was followed by David in 2nd with Brian in 3rd position just one point behind.
A mixed bag all round for this afternoon of racing. Five skippers were greeted by SSE winds around 10-18 kph and a couple of tyres floating in the course. Once cleared, some interesting racing took place. While everyone managed a 1st place across the line which was good to see, all boats had weed hook-ups at some stage and there were also two boat rescues and two who managed to snag buoys. In all it was considered a humorous day which in the end saw Ken take 1st place by four points from Wayne followed by Trevor just two points back in 3rd place.
Five skippers again for the afternoon racing. Presented with winds from the WSW of around 5-12kph, eight races were closely contested. With a couple of dreaded tyres that had floated to the surface again that required sinking before the first race, the afternoon was otherwise fairly uneventful. A tied score between Wayne and Ken for 2nd and 3rd with David taking the 1st place overall. If the racing is like this for the rest of the season, it's going to be a very interesting tussle for the final placing.
Eight races today with five skippers presented with WSW winds around 10-15 kph. All races sailed in great spirit and with the exception of Wayne, who still managed to finish 2nd overall, everyone else scored at least one 1st across the line. Again Ken took out the day with Wayne and David taking the minor placings respectively.
Six DF95 skippers for the afternoon's racing where eight races were held with winds WSW around 5-15kph. Unfortunately, one skipper had to depart at the mid racing break. One rescue was needed and to top off the day, two floating tyres emerged which had to be disposed of. Hopefully the appearance of these two tyres aren't a sign of things to come for the lake again as the season progresses.
Five DF95 skippers again for the afternoon. The breeze wasn't as forecasted and those who were able to read the shifts and patches and hold onto them did well over the racing. Unfortunately Brian decided to finish his racing after six races so the podium places were fought between the remaining four skippers. Again Ken has shown his masterful skills with the DF95 and with five 1st places across the line and a worse place of 3rd, which he was able to discard, he finished on 9ts and took 1st place. Wayne and Peter took 2nd and 3rd respectively.
*-* Tied Scores, Position after count back
Today we had around 9 knots to sail in and it stayed all day, Wayne didn’t wait for anyone winning the first 2 races, followed by David winning the 3rd & 4th races before the break. Brian took control after the break winning the 5th & 7th race. Ken McKernan still finding his way with the fickly breeze on the course, and nice to see Trevor having a win also. It was a challenge for Ken as he could not get in front of the skilled fleet of skippers, Wayne winning the last race giving Wayne 3 wins for the day could not get him over the line for 1st spot. With Ken hanging on with 2nd place 6 times keeping his score down allowed him 1st on the podium followed Wayne and Brian tieing for 2nd with Wayne getting 2nd on a count back then Brian 3rd.
It was a great day’s sailing guys….
It was great to see Peter George & Terry Priest back sailing again.
With a breeze stronger than forecasted, there was some good racing between Brian David and Ken, Brian consistently coming 3rd in the first 3 races and looking to be 1st in the 4th race was taken out in a gust preventing Brian to tack and to settle for 2nd place.
After the break saw Peter George showing his skill winning the last 3 races, nicely done Peter. Podium was Ken, David and Peter.
*-* Tied scores after count-back.
Today arriving at the club for our DF95 event it started with sad news that one of our past members Rodney Adams had passed away on Saturday morning 8/2. Before starting our 1st race a moment of silence was held in respect for Rodney who made everyone's day with a smile and a laugh. With 19 knots of wind, plus gusts, boats were diving around but were handled well by their skippers. Fortunately there was no need for the rescue boat to go out. Racing was close all day with Wayne and Ken tied for 1st place and Brian and David tied for 3rd spot. Ken eventually taking 1st on a count-back, Wayne 2nd with David taking 3rd spot on a count back with Brian.
A great start to the Dragoflite DF95 event with 7 skippers, Both 1st and 2nd race saw the dingy to the rescue. There was a great racing between David, Ken and Wayne and at the end there was onlly a point between them with David winning with a high discard, Bill Fenwick right behind in 4th spot and winning the last race.
A good days racing and well done David.
